On the 5th December, Dr Christel Hendrieckx, Jennifer Halliday, Dr Adriana Ventura, Dr Elizabeth Holmes-Truscott and Dr Linda Beeney attended the 2017 VicHealth awards at the Melbourne Museum. These awards are Victoria’s highest health promotion honours and cordially referred to as the ‘Oscars of health promotion’. This year’s awards marked VicHealth’s 30th anniversary, celebrating VicHealth’s establishment in 1987 as the world’s first health promotion foundation.

Our nomination, for the Diabetes and Emotional Health handbook and toolkit, was one of four finalists in the ‘Research Into Action’ category. Diabetes and Emotional Health was developed by the ACBRD in collaboration with the National Diabetes Services Scheme*, to support health professionals to identify, communicate about and address emotional problems that may be experienced by adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Though we were not one of the winners, we had a very enjoyable evening celebrating the health promotion achievements of Victorian community organisations, arts bodies, research centres, health services, local councils and major sporting codes.

* The NDSS is an initiative of the Australian Government administered with the assistance of Diabetes Australia. The NDSS funded the development and promotion of the Diabetes and Emotional Health handbook for health professionals.
