The ‘Diabetes and Emotional Health’ practical guide aims to support health professionals to identify, address and communicate about emotional problems during consultations with adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. It is complemented by a toolkit containing chapter summary cards, questionnaire cards, and leaflets for people with diabetes. This practical guide is the 2nd edition (2020) of the ‘Diabetes and Emotional Health’ handbook, which was published first in Australia in 2016. The practical guide (previously, handbook) was developed in collaboration with, published and funded by the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS). The NDSS is an initiative of the Australian Government administered with the assistance of Diabetes Australia. You can read about the formative evaluation of the practical guide here and download a free electronic copy of the guide and toolkit here.
‘Diabetes and Emotional Health’ was adapted by Diabetes UK in 2019 and The American Diabetes Association in 2021. The ‘Diabetes Distress’ chapter was adapted and translated by Steno Diabetes Centre, Denmark in 2021.
