Shaira is a Research Fellow at the ACBRD. Her PhD (awarded by the University of Melbourne in 2021) investigated engagement with type 2 diabetes self-management apps from users’ perspectives. Her research included a systematic review, quantitative and qualitative research methods. Shaira’s PhD was funded by a National Health and Medical Research Council postgraduate scholarship and a top-up scholarship from Diabetes Australia. Her broad research interests include interventions that promote physical and mental well-being among people with diabetes, with a particular focus on the role of digital self-management interventions. Shaira’s current role includes contribution to a systematic literature review and stakeholder consultation on structured self-monitoring of blood glucose among people with non-insulin-treated type 2 diabetes. She is also managing a systematic review of the social and emotional wellbeing of Indigenous people with diabetes.
