Shaira is a doctoral candidate at the University of Melbourne and is supervised by Prof. Jane Speight at the Australian Centre for Behavioural Research in Diabetes. She is investigating user preferences of, and engagement with diabetes self-management apps using a mixed-methods, user-centred approach. She is also studying how conversational relational agents can be used to deliver self-management support to people with diabetes. Her research program is funded through a National Health and Medical Research Council post-graduate scholarship and a scholarship from Diabetes Australia.
