Professorial Research Fellow

Timothy Skinner trained as a Health Psychologist at the University of Surrey, UK, where he got his PhD in 2000. He is a registered psychologist with the AHPRA, the New Zealand Psychology Board, and a Chartered Health Psychologist with the British Psychological Society. He moved to Australia in 2007, and has worked in NSW, WA, SA, Tasmania, NT, Victoria and had a brief visit to Queensland. His clinical and research work is focused on understanding how best to help people with diabetes managing the dual demands of managing their diabetes and optimising their emotional-well-being. He is also engaged in work supporting individuals to optimise their lifestyles to prevent diabetes, and to optimise the quality of their sleep. Since 2009, this work has also had a focus on the challenges for rural and remote individuals and communities, and he has current collaborations with the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health – University of Queensland, and holds a part-time appointment at the University of Copenhagen.
